I have played around with the idea of starting a math education blog for some time now. As another month begins, I take this opportunity to write about math education in a new century – to talk about what needs to change, what shouldn’t change, and why.
The blog is called The Third R, reminding us of both the long-standing importance of mathematics and the huge changes school math has undergone in the past century. My intent is to look at how we promote the learning of mathematics through our teaching, with a focus on “what’s right” rather than “who’s right.”
I hope you enjoy what you read here. Whether you agree or not, I also hope you will consider these things carefully.
